Answers to all of your microcurrent questions!
Frequently Asked Questions:
How does Microcurrent work?
Microcurrent works by delivering low-level electrical currents similar to the body’s own natural current, to stimulate facial muscles for a natural face-lift. Think of it as a workout for your face. Myotone’s gentle currents also improve circulation and promote collagen production, enhancing overall skin tone and firmness.
What does Microcurrent feel like?
Myotone delivers a low level microcurrent similar to the body’s own natural current. When using your microcurrent device you will feel the gentle pulsing sensation of the probes on the skin, but you will not be able to feel the current itself. A microcurrent treatment routine will feel like a relaxing massage for your face, similar to gua sha.
If you experience any tingling or discomfort, you need more conductive serum. Apply another layer of conductive serum and ensure that your skin is properly hydrated. Never use your microcurrent device without serum as it can be uncomfortable and also renders the treatment ineffective.
How long until I start to see results?
Some users see visible results after their first use; however results may vary. Immediate results after one session could include a visible eyebrow lift and a more noticeable contour of the jawline and cheeks. More significant and lasting results typically become apparent after several weeks of consistent use. As results are cumulative, much like a regular workout session at the gym, you must use it to see results! We recommend using your device 5 – 7 times a week for the first month, then maintaining 1-3 times a week.
Why do I need to use conductive serum?
Conductive serum is essential when using a microcurrent device as it allows the electrical currents to travel through the skin. If no serum is used the current cannot conduct: using the device on dry skin will cause only an uncomfortable sensation on the surface of the skin.
How can I tell if it’s working?
When the Myotone Microcurrent device is on, the probes will gently pulse every 1 second & make a small noise, this will let you know that the current is flowing.
Myotone Microcurrent devices also have a conductivity sensor (the three bars on the handle) that will show in real time the conductivity level on your skin. If the bar is green the microcurrent is conducting well and giving your face the optimal lift. You may not feel anything happening, so be sure to watch the conductivity sensor to ensure that all areas of your face are treated properly.
Are there side effects?
There are no long term side effects to using microcurrent. Directly after treatment a small percentage of users may experience temporary redness of the skin. These effects are short-lived and will subside a few minutes after finishing the facial.
Why does the device pulse?
Our microcurrent device is designed to pulse every 1 second as you use it during your skincare routine. This pulsing action serves as a helpful guide, allowing you to hold the device on specific key points for at least 4 pulses/seconds. This technique helps optimize the lifting and muscle-toning effects, ensuring you hold long enough in the desired areas. The pulses are only a guide for you, microcurrent is conducting through your skin at a constant rate, not connected to the pulses.
Is it safe to use anywhere on the body?
Myotone microcurrent devices are specifically designed to treat the face, as the muscles of the face are unique in being directly connected to the skin, which makes microcurrent treatment particularly effective. Although the current will not harm you or your skin, we can not recommend using it on areas other than the face as we have not studied the results and it is unlikely to be as effective.
There are also a few areas on the face where you should not use the device. Microcurrent should not be used on any mucus membranes such as your eyelids or lips. The center area of the neck should also be avoided as the currents could affect the thyroid.
Device Questions
The level lights are red
This indicates that the device’s probes are clogged. To clean, gently wipe the probes with a dry cloth. Do not submerge your Myotone device in water or any liquid. To prevent the probes from getting clogged again, wipe the probes after your daily session.
My device won’t turn on
The Myotone device uses a touch sensitive sensor for the control pad. Gently touch the power button and hold for several seconds to power the device on. If you have just purchased your device it needs to be charged prior to your first use. As this can take 4-6 hours for a full charge, we recommend leaving it to charge overnight and using it for the first time in the morning.
The conductivity bar is red
This indicates that your battery is low. Plug in your device to charge, and the light will turn green when fully charged. Remember that the Myotone device can not be used while connected to a power source.
My device shut off
After five minutes of non-use your Myotone device will time out and shut off to save battery. If your device shut off during your routine it is likely out of battery and needs to be recharged. It is also possible that you accidentally touched the sensor which controls power to the device. Make sure to hold the device from the handle when doing your routine.

Can I use my device with makeup on?
Myotone works best on clean skin: cleanse your face with an oil free cleanser prior to treatment. Makeup could clog the device’s probes as well as make the treatment less effective.
What is Myotone’s level of microcurrent?
Myotone has three levels of current: the lowest is 300 mAmps, the second is 400 mAmps, and the highest is 500 mAmps. All of these levels are well below 1000 mAmps, which is the lowest level perceptible to the human body. Most microcurrent devices on the market use a maximum of 300 mAmps, which is why Myotone gets stronger, esthetician level results.
